OF PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY,VA
Have you the ever wondered where International Standard received
it's title. I ask many in the community and heard various
theories and could not come up with a definite conclusion, but,
as many of you own the book "Ballroom Dancing" by Alex Moore
which is the basis of International Standard or American Smooth.
The words "International" and "Standard" appear In the
Introductory Section of this book as following:
Perhaps the most significant point regarding he
progress of Modern Ballroom Dancing can be found in the
way in which it was able to achieve international
prominence ... but the standardization of a few basic
steps ...[T]he international interest...result in the
recognition of English Ballroom Dancing ....the
standard of dancing is sufficiently high...
The first publish edition was in 1936 and is in it's ninth
edition. In our chapter's next workshop series starting in
September, we will train in the introductory section of this book
which is the basis of our ballroom dancing today. This will be a
Technique Workshop either for the International Standard or
American Smooth, a must to be a better dancer. If you do not own
the above book, buy it. It costs around the high $20s.

first two hours will be as a review on the Cha Cha, Mambo and

mentions in the videos men should be the "Telephone Company"
versus the "Moving Company". The last two hours on the Bolero, a
very romantic dance. Thomas Bevans will be the instructor and
has done a splendid job on providing the instruction to the
